CARE ITEMS NEEDED
Help orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda
as the COVID-19 virus comes to their villages.
All donated items will be purchased in local, Ugandan markets and then delivered to each child by their Ugandan social worker.
FROM the TRUE AFRICA Team:
We hope that you and your families are doing well and staying healthy. This is a challenging time in the U.S. and across the world. We applaud the heroic efforts of the medical personnel and all of those who are protecting others by social distancing, wearing masks and staying close to home to help prevent further spread of the COVID-19 virus to your neighbors and community. Thank you to our donors and sponsors who exceeded out goals in providing food (posho & beans) and soap for over 300 children our recent April 2020 COVID-19 Fundraiser. We are continuing to call for immediate care items needs to help battle the effects of this virus in the lives of TRUE Africa's sponsored students and their families. As we each look around and realize how much we really have in our lives, the quality of our homes, the clothes and shoes in our closets, what we have in our kitchens and pantries, how often we choose to eat out, etc., it becomes an easy thing to give a little back to help others. As you donate items below, provide general donations, and/or share this page with your friends & family, please be assured that 95% of your support goes to our program services to provide education and humanitarian care for over 230 vulnerable children and youth. |
UPDATE & CURRENT NEEDS:
As of March 16th, students in Uganda returned home as schools closed. Re-opening date is still currently unknown, although the Ugandan Ministry of Education is hoping for September. In April, the generous support of donors provided posho, beans and soap to over 300 children and their families. Now, 4 months later, the children and their families are still struggling due to the COVID-19 virus. Like in the US, many adults can no longer work, supply chains have been disrupted, and families have more children at home due to school closures. Transportation has also been limited. During the month of August, we are again needing to send posho and beans to the sponsored students, their families and the many teachers still living at the schools where the majority of our sponsored students attend. Please help us give food to those in need! At this time, the students currently need: * Posho (corn grits), a staple food * Dry beans for protein |
We've set the donation amounts low so that more people can participate.

URGENT: Bean Donations NeededBeans (similar to pinto beans) are very nutritious and add a wonderful amount of protein, fiber, and vitamins to a child's diet. Please help provide beans to the students during this time when food shortages are impacting their nutrition. A bag of 25 lbs of beans is $25. ($1/lb). Your $10 donations will help provide beans to needy children. GOAL: $2,500 = 100 bags of beans (2,500 lbs.) RECEIVED: $1,455 for beans!! $1,045 to go! |
URGENT NEED: Posho (corn grits)Posho, a staple food in the Ugandan diet, is made from ground maize (corn) and often called 'maize flour.' It is similar to corn grits in the U.S. When boiled thinly, it makes porridge -- a hot drink for breakfast. When cooked more solid, it is a common base for meals, for example covered with cooked beans (like pinto beans). Children usually eat posho for school lunches. Posho is very filling and nutritious, especially when combined with beans. A 55 lbs bag of posho is $40.00. Every $10 will provide a quarter bag! GOAL: $4,000 = 100 bags of posho (5,500 lbs) RECEIVED: $1,555 received for posho, $2,450 to go |
